My Two Year Old Likes Blood Red Paint. My Couch doesn't.

So I came home from work yesterday, and as soon as I stepped through the door Titus (my little boy) started going on in little boy talk and pointing. Then my wife yelled at me for leaving my paints where he could get them and paint our couch and carpet and a deck of Magic : The Gathering cards that were next to the paints. My wife tried to clean the paint with nail polish remover and that only thinned it and managed to get it into the couch more from what I could see. So like any good hobbyist I turned to my hobby tools. I figured if my acrylic brush cleaner could get all that extra crud out of my brushes it should work on other stuff too right? Well it did! A good working over with a scrub brush and a few good rinses with a little water and every thing looks like its back to normal. Later on I found that all my files and my brand new one week out of the package pin vise were also gunked up too so I still have a little cleaning to do. Oh the joys of children... at least the fact that he runs around the house brandishing his sword and yelling Emperor gives me hope for the future!

On a side note. If you play collectible card games and have kids make sure you put your cards in good quality sleeves. Even though they were only commons the cards came out paint free!

  1. I remember when my little lad decided to help daddy paint his tank, he used plastic glue!

    Kids, gotta love them ;-)

  2. Ack. I've managed to keep my 40k stuff out of my daughter's warpaths, but many other things in my house have suffered. Any of us with tykes totally understand your spot.

  4. I knew there was a reason I didn't leave models over your place. Gotta love him though.

  5. My 3.5 year old daughter has been "painting" my minis with my supervision since she was 2. I usually just pick out one that needs to be stripped and let her at it,only one color, any more and it could be a real mess vs sort of a mess. She also likes to play with my "guys" (hey, it's LOTR, they are almost all guys) and all my terrain. We get out the castles, river, trees and rocks, she then proceeds to take out all my high elves and bash them together like they are fighting. " Look daddy they fight ". She is a good kid and has never opened any of my paints.....yet. I have a six month old boy now so we will see if the same hold true for him. Time to buy a lock for the office.

  6. I should let him try painting a model one of these days. My wife has been getting him little wood cars and animals and such from craft stores to paint but perhaps I should get him one of those boxes of snap together models GW has for 8 bucks. He is very good with my models when I let him play around with and he absolutely loves dice.

  7. Yeah, what is with the dice. She will say "lets play dice" and we will sit there for 15-20 minutes just rolling dice, or until she has collected all my dice. She starts with 4 or 5 and "needs" more until she all but the two I have. It's hilarious.

  8. @Jobu: A few weeks back I had a game of Space Hulk with a friend. Set everything up on the table as prep and left the room. Come back in a few minutes later to the not-quite 4 year old up on a stool. There was a pile of Genestealers in a room... with a *whoosh* noise the door opened to reveal a hapless Marine! "Bang, Bang! Now we charge!" The poor Marine was promptly knocked over and Genestealers piled on top to the words "You're dead now and we eat you!"
It was about that time my choked laughter distracted her play, but it made me so proud to be her Dad.
