My Scouts Are Trying To Tell Me Soemthing

Apparently I haven't been giving my scouts enough attention because one decided to play hide and seek with me for two weeks. I have a five man close combat scout squad with a power fist that I had originally planned on using to outflank when I bought it. I think I used it all of twice before giving up on them. Since getting hit with the nerf stick in 5th edition, I haven't touched them. Maybe if I had a full ten man cc squad they would find there way into more games, but as it stands the scouts wont be seeing much play anytime soon.
Anyway, about the hiding scout.
While packing up from my last game against Jordan and his Orks I grabbed one of my Sabol trays off the shelf and clipped a book or something. I never saw the scout fly; I just heard it bounce off the edge of the table. I looked for it for a good ten minutes before giving up and continued to pack.
About a week and a half later while making a quick run to the basement to grab something, I noticed something sticking out of a tree. "What are the odds of that," I wondered.

For my next game I plan on taking the hint. Grab your gear and pick up a teleport homer boys, you're going in deep!

What are your thoughts on scouts these days? You hear about bikers and storms a lot, but do foot slogging scouts still have a place in 5th edition?

Calm After the Storms?

Its been quiet lately around here. With all the snow not many games have been going on and not many people have been making it for paint nights. The north jersey crew seems to be getting along just fine though. Revenant Dan posted a few WIP pics of his tau army and Joey V has been painting and talking strategy on his blog. TQ and his awesome wife Karet have been working on their new WARMACHINE / HORDES armies and managed to somehow get me to buy the new Khador Heavy Warjack. Since I was wading into the world of WARMACHINE for the first time I took the advice of BoLS and picked up the faction deck while I was at it. My brother Jon realized that if he painted his nids he could win the painting prize for our league and is supposedly working his brushes like a mad man after school every day, and I have been steadily working on my new years resolution to not buy any new 40k until I paint all my armies.
Here are a few of the things I have accomplished in the last few weeks.
I painted my 500 point Tau doubles army, and once I figure out how to base them they will be ready to go! I'm thinking a desert theme with some dead looking foliage or something along those lines.I cranked out my 19 remaining genestealers from my old Nidzilla army Once I figure out a basing scheme for them they will be ready to go too! (Notice the recurring theme here?)I finally got my Iron Clad Dreadnought ready to bash in some tanks! I love Dreads! They don't need to be based! And last but not least I painted my first Ultra Marine! This is most likely going to end up as a 3rd company "counts as" Sicariaus for Scott's army. I think the conversion turned out pretty well for a 5 minute butcher job on the black reach captain. I actually based him with a generic looking base because you can't get more generic than smurfs!

Other than that I've been painting a few non GW minis I have sitting around and trying out some new techniques. My wife keeps telling me that my biggest problem with painting armies is that I jsut batch paint them so I can get done. So my reasoning is that if I paint a single mini it will force me to try harder and get away from my "tabletop quality" mentality. On From the Warp, Ron talked about how he has improved and I can see where I have been getting better over the last year, but I still feel I have a lot of room to improve.

I plan on painting my Sisters of Battle army once I get my last few nids painted up but I can't decide on a color scheme. My first squad had blood red armor with bleached bone cloth and gold trim, but lately I have been considering silver armor with red cloth, or white armor with a gold or stone trim and black or red cloth. Every one says white can be a hard color to get right, so it may be just the challenge I need but I do like the look of the silver... Seriously I think I spend more time debating over colors than anything else...

Oh yeah! I can't forget the most important thing I worked on! I made a snow man with my boy!

People Must be looking for Zephri Pics

Since I posted my last battle report and noticed my hit counter was up about a thousand hits I figured Zephri's BoLS interview must be up. Since people are actually coming here I figured its now the time to ask this question.

Where do you sign up to run a club table at gamesday? Every year I see all the club events and games going on there and now that we have a pretty good group of people we would like to run a table or two this year.

The only information I was able to find was a really old post on a comic shops forums. So if any one can let me know who I need to contact or where the forms are at shoot me an email at
palinmoonstride@gmail.com

Heres a link to the original post Cloud Gets Beat by a Girl since its not on the front page any more.

You all know you want me to have Zephri run a table for a day...

Battle Report : Space Marines Vs. Tyranids

Space Marines Vs Tyranids 1500 points Pitched Battle/ Annihilation from paul mehaffey on Vimeo.

Last weekend a few more of our Planetary Empires players straggled in from the snowy wastes of South Jersey. We were slammed with about 20 inches of snow and are scheduled to get more tonight. I'm sure glad I'm on my week off work!

This battle report features my brother Jonathan's in the middle of being stripped and repainted Tyranids. He had just finished building his Mawlock and gargoyles and was eager to get them on the tabletop. He ended up stealing a few of my models this game since most of his army is in tubs of Simple Green at home, but his list looked something like this.

Hive Tyrant - scything talons, strangle thorn cannon, paroxysm, leech essence, hive commander
Zoanthrope x3
Termagants x16
Outflanking Genestealers x6 - scything talons
Outflanking Genestealers x6 - scything talons
Outflanking Genestealers x6 - scything talons
Gargoyles x10 - adrenal glands
Gargoyles x10 - adrenal glands
Mawlock - started in reserve
Carnifex x2 - twin-linked devourers x2

I was running a pretty typical Space Marine list with a lot of anti swarm firepower.
Librarian - Avenger, Gate of infinity
Tactical squad - Power Fist, Plasma Gun, Missile launcher, Rhino
Tactical squad - Power Fist, Plasma Gun, Missile launcher, Rhino
Tactical Squad - Power Sword, Flamer, Missile launcher, Razorback
Landspeeder - Assault Cannon, Heavy Bolter
Dreadnought - Assault Cannon, Missile Launcher
Vindicator
Whirlwind
Land Raider Crusader - Multi Melta

The game was pretty one sided. He set up first along the majority of his deployment zone like he usually does. I find most of the inexperienced players in our group do the same thing, and it usually leads to their downfall. Being his first game with bugs in some time, he also ended up having synapse issues that could have been mitigated with a little more planning upfront. After the game, we talked about some changes that he could make to his list such as using a Parasite of Mortrex with one big blob of gargoyles and a Trygon prime or a few warriors in some Mycetic Spores to get a synapse bubble across the table quickly. He has a lot of tyranid models sitting around, and I think at the moment he is overwhelmed with the amount of choices he has with the new codex. If anyone has any tips or list suggestions, let him know in the comments. He really wants to win a game one of these days.

My Two Year Old Likes Blood Red Paint. My Couch doesn't.

So I came home from work yesterday, and as soon as I stepped through the door Titus (my little boy) started going on in little boy talk and pointing. Then my wife yelled at me for leaving my paints where he could get them and paint our couch and carpet and a deck of Magic : The Gathering cards that were next to the paints. My wife tried to clean the paint with nail polish remover and that only thinned it and managed to get it into the couch more from what I could see. So like any good hobbyist I turned to my hobby tools. I figured if my acrylic brush cleaner could get all that extra crud out of my brushes it should work on other stuff too right? Well it did! A good working over with a scrub brush and a few good rinses with a little water and every thing looks like its back to normal. Later on I found that all my files and my brand new one week out of the package pin vise were also gunked up too so I still have a little cleaning to do. Oh the joys of children... at least the fact that he runs around the house brandishing his sword and yelling Emperor gives me hope for the future!

On a side note. If you play collectible card games and have kids make sure you put your cards in good quality sleeves. Even though they were only commons the cards came out paint free!

Imperial Fists vs Space Marines Video Battle Report

Imperial Fists Vs. Immortal Knights (SM) 2775 Pitched Battle / Seize Ground from paul mehaffey on Vimeo.

Round 2 of our Planetary Empires Campaign began last Saturday and what a day it was!
More of the North Jersey crew made an appearance and rocked some little mans across the tabletop.

This week I had the pleasure of playing with Mr. Adam Went, a hard core fan of the sons of Dorn who plays them just like the fluff. I have to admit that, at first, I felt bad for him since it looked like I had so much more than him on the table. As my Land Raider Crusader went down under a barrage of 8 Lascannon shots on turn one, those feelings quickly vanished.

I have to ask you to forgive my poor camera handling this time around. Two hours sleep before a day of 40k makes for some pretty messed up angles. I was sure everything was dead center in the viewfinder when I was shooting it, I was sure I typed 2775 points, I was sure I still had the clips for a re-do, and that little Imperial Fists turn seven... yeah, that's a parasite on your neck....

Lesson of the day, sleep before you play!
