Preparing the Defenses!

So our upcoming APOCALYPSE game is less than a week away. After getting in some kill team with Jon this weekend (and hearing Jordan cry about Tyranids some more) I decided to get things ready for the big game this Saturday. Having set up the terrain I thought it would be a good idea to get a feel for how many models it could handle before it looked too packed. Really I just wanted an excuse to set up all my little men and take pictures of them but just humor me for a bit... Our game is going to be 9000 points total so it shouldn't be too over crowded. Then again there will be three Ork players and one Tyranid player, so space may become limited very quickly. Though once the Hellhammer starts firing I'm sure space will become readily available.

I picked up a few new pieces of terrain from Pegasus Hobbies last week and am very satisfied with the quality of their products. Their techno bridge was a snap to assemble (Quite literally since I haven't glued it yet, yet it holds together just fine.) and looks great with just a dusting of silver spray paint. My wife keeps bugging me to detail it more but I'm happy with it as is for now. Besides, what's a war gamer without a backlog?
The second piece I purchased  was the river. My wife had been telling me I should get one of these for months, (Its great having a wife who tells me I need more terrain!)so I finally splurged on it for a whole sixteen bucks or so. When I initially opened it I thought it looked kind of cartoonish but its been growing on me the past few days and together with the bridge it has become the staple of our kill team games. The other terrain items I got were the resin barrels and rubble piles you can see in some of the pictures. The sand bags are also from Pegasus Hobbies now that I think of it. Their prepainted resin scenery is top notch and I would recommend it to any one looking to add that extra little something to their tables. Their prices are reasonable and their selection is huge!

Rules wise I'm still up in the air about how to count this game in our planetary empires campaign. Should it count as playing all three of the guys on the other team? How to determine the bonuses form controlling tiles and such? Should we just make it a game for funsies and leave it at that? I was thinking we could just have the game count for the player across form you and use the tile bonuses that would come from that player but what do you guys think? Some of the guys who are playing this weekend haven't made a lot of the games and could use it to get some numbers in their standings. When I asked about apoc experiences in a a previous post Turuk gave me a link to this page.

The article made a lot of valid points and got me thinking of things I should be doing to facilitate a smoother game. Our game wont be nearly as huge as the ones listed but issues will surely arise. (Especially the ones about Ork players crying when their boyz get blasted!) As always comments and suggestions are appreciated. And for my players I'll post info on objectives and more rules later this week so you can start scheming!

WAAAAGGGGGGGHHHH FOR NOW GREENSKINS!! YOUR DOOM IS AT HAND!!!!

  1. The new river terrain is looking fantastic, as is the new bridge. Can't wait to see photo and battle reports from the game this upcoming weekend.

As for whether or not it's an Empires game or not, doesn't matter to me if you guys can come up with a good way of making it work.

  2. If you want to make it a planetary empires game then it could count as playing everyone on the opposite team. But each player on the winning team can only capture one tile each.

  8. Jon wouldn't have been as unstoppable if you'd learn your rules better. Your kans should have insta-killed his raveners in close combat. Take some time to read through the rulebook and your codex entries before we play again. You'll find things you were missing and it will improve your game a lot.
